The idea that the medium is the message can be confusing. Though once you get your head around it, it makes a lot of sense. Marshall McLuhan’s theory introduced me to a new way of thinking about and looking at media. Simply, McLuhan states that the material presented is not the message; the message is the reason behind why that material is shown.
But what does this mean for us now in a world where content can be shared so quickly and on such a large scale? Today it is more important than ever to be able to see changes in media. If we are able to see these changes we can influence how and if that medium evolves. As McLuhan reveals, “Anticipation gives the power to deflect and control force”.
